Community Access Professional (CAP)
CAI/CAG Day Support Services
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. Community Access Services are designed to assist the individual in acquiring, retaining, or improving self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills required for active community participation and independent functioning outside the individual’s home or family home.
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. Community Access services are focused on interventions in the areas of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development and may include training in the areas of daily living skills (including leisure/recreation skills); communication training; mobility training; programming to reduce inappropriate and/or maladaptive behaviors; and training in the use of common community resources.
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. Day Support Staff will be focusing on assisting the individual in increasing self-help, socialization skills, skills or daily living and adaptive skills required for active community participation and independent functioning outside the individual’s home or family home. These activities include accompanying individuals to the grocery store, or eating establishments; teaching an individual how to participate in appropriate social and recreational activities; and assessing other activities of community living.
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. Community Access services are individually planned to meet the individual’s needs and preferences for active community participation. These services are provided in either community-based or facility-based settings but not in the Individual’s home, family home, or any other residential setting.
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. is intended to improve the individual’s access to the community through increased skills and/or less paid supports. Community Access Group services are provided to individual individuals or to groups of individuals. Community Access Group services are provided to groups of individuals, with a staff to individual ratio of one to two or more.
Brightstar Homes & Services, Inc. staff to individual ratio for Community Access Group services is one (1) to ten (10). Our Community Access Individual services are provided to an individual, with a one-to-one staff to individual ratio. We offer (or arrange when needed) any of the Community Access Services that are needed by the individuals served and specified in the individuals’ Individual Service Plans (ISP).

Community Access Professional (CAP)
The Community Access Professional (CAP) position is one of the most interactive positions at Brightstar Homes and Services. This employee provides direct support and care to the participant while helping them become more integrated in their community. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is a plus. Creativity in activities and use of community resources are vital.

Specific tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides direct assistance in self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills training, retention and improvement to individual participants and groups of participants;
- Provides direct assistance in training, retraining or improving the access to and use of community resources by individual participants or groups if participants;
- Implements the behavioral support plans of participants to reduce inappropriate and/or maladaptive behaviors and to acquire alternative adaptive skills and behaviors;
- Provides active support and direct assistance in participants’ participation in community social, recreational and leisure activities;
- Provides participant-specific assistance, such as assistance with personal care and self-administration of medication.
Education and Experience:
- Be 21 years or older;
- High school diploma/equivalent (General Education Development or GED);
- Annual health exam and tuberculosis screening
- First Aid/CPR certified;
- Satisfactory criminal records check (NCIC);
- Have a valid, Class C license
- Be legally licensed in the State of Georgia with the class the class of licensure appropriate to the vehicle operated if transporting participants;
- If vehicle has a weight of 26,001or designed to transport 15 or more passengers, including the driver
- 7 year MVR Record
- Have no more than two chargeable accidents, moving violations, or any DUI’S in a three (3) year period within the last five (5) years of the seven (7) year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) period if transporting participants.
Desired:
- At least two years’ experience in the provision of habilitation services
- At least two years’ experience working with IDD Individuals
